“When you are consistently in a state of gratitude, and aware of all the awesomeness that already exists, it, among many other things, makes it much easier for you to believe that there’s more awesomeness where that came from, and that this yet-to-be-manifested awesomeness is also available to you. You’ve received awesomeness before, so of course, you can receive awesomeness again. This is how gratitude strengthens your faith. And having strong faith is a major key in transforming your life.”
-Jen Sincero, You Are a Badass

“Gratitudinal- being in a state of gratitude or gratefulness.  It is a lot easier to give of yourself and to not be upset with other people when in that state.”
-Brandon Routh

“Attitude: an organismic state of readiness to respond in a characteristic way to a stimulus.”  -Meriam Webster Dictionary

This past weekend, my family and I, like most families, celebrated Thanksgiving.  Traditionally, Thanksgiving gives us a time to reflect and celebrate what we are grateful for in our lives.  We have an opportunity to spend quality time with those most important to us.  Also, we get to celebrate the abundance that this life has to offer.

Unfortunately, gratitude does not come to mind as a mental state throughout the rest of the year. The attitudes we choose to embody through the rest of the year create the realities we find ourselves in.  Have you ever noticed that an attitude is usually accompanied by a descriptive word?  We can have a bad/ negative attitude or a great/ positive attitude. These attitudes bring about certain emotions.   Our attitudes can fuel anger, frustration, sadness OR they can fuel happiness, joy, and excitement.

An attitude of gratitude creates the best of all life experiences. With this state of being, we are constantly reminded of how wonderful life truly is.  We are satisfied and appreciate the abundance that life offers.  Gratitude blocks all negative emotions and repels negative thoughts.  We are happen the moment and thankful for all that we have.  Also, gratitude creates hope and an optimistic attitude toward the future.  It opens our minds and creates new possibilities.

Like all attitudes, gratitude needs to be cultivated. It starts small and grows exponentially when practiced consistently.  It’s never too late to grow gratitude.  Consider these exercises to begin growing an attitude of gratitude:

  • write a thank you letter to yourself
  • write a thank you letter to someone else
  • write 3 things you are thankful for for 30 days
  • speak aloud what you appreciate daily
  • perform a random act of kindness for someone
  • speak your appreciation aloud to someone who helped you

Obviously, these are just a few examples.  There are many ways to express gratitude.  Find what works best for you and continue the action.  You will be surprised of the events that occur in your life.  Above all, Eat, Move and Improve!
