“The earth has music for those who listen.” –William Shakespeare
“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” –Albert Einstein
A few months ago, I had a chance to explore Philadelphia, PA. This was the first time I was in the city ever. It was a Sunday and I had the whole day to check it out. If you have not been there before, Philly is a fantastic walking city. Many of the sites are close to each other and there are plenty of side walks and paths. Most of the sites are walking/ self guided tours so I got a great workout as well.
As I went along with my exploration, I realized something. I had felt more happy than I could remember in recent times. It did not take me long to realize what it was. I had been outside for the longest time since last year! I was walking around in the fresh air and enjoying the scenery. I was not worried about what was going on at home, work, or anywhere else. I was completely present to the outdoors and fresh air. Getting this fresh air made me feel at peace and more energetic. I was calm and joyful! I could not believe how great being outside made me feel.
Bottom line: If you feel stressed, overwhelmed, or frustrated, step outside of your home. If you’re dealing with a tough problem or need a new environment, take a walk. If you want to feel more at peace or gain a better perspective, find a bench or chair outside. breathe in the fresh air. Observe the sights of nature. Listen to the natural sounds. Feel the wind on your face. You will feel better in minutes! As Always, Eat, Move, and Improve!
