“The secret is not giving up. Most people who have accomplished great things in this world didn’t have that deep meaning to their quest, but they had that resiliency. They had the ability to bounce back.” -Eric Thomas

“For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.” -Proverbs 24:16

“Most people never run far enough on their first wind to find out they’ve got a second.”- William James

Earlier this week, I had prepared a separate topic.  I had it all ready to be posted before my usual time.  However, my entire post did not save correctly.  Therefore, I figured this topic would make the most sense this week!

Life is a mysterious thing.  It is designed to shape and mold us through challenging events and situations.  Believe it or not, everyone goes through difficult times in their life at one point or another.  Every life has hardships.  The belief/ perception is that the most successful people never had challenging times or are so much more special than everyone else.  However, this is not totally true.  Most successful people had terrible things happen to them.  However, they had RESILIENCE and bounced back!

Don’t believe me?  Let’s look at a few examples.  There’s no argument that Abraham Lincoln was one of the greatest presidents of the United States.  When he was young, he lost his mother and fiance. Abraham tried and failed to get elected into a political position 8 times before becoming president.  The rest you know is history.  Lincoln abolishes slavery and worked to unite a broken nation.  Michael Jordan is another example of someone who never quit.  Jordan will go down in history as one of the greatest basketball players to ever play the game.  Throughout his career, Jordan won 6 NBA championships.  Did you know Jordan got cut from his high school basketball team.  He has been quoted to say “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

I have failed many times even in my life.  When in high school, I got cut from several sports teams.  I have made mistakes when handed an opportunity to speak with a customer.  I have failed at dating relationships.  However, I will not stop from achieving my dreams.  You see, failure only happens when you give up. Events and situations happen to us.  The only thing we can do is control our response.  Effort is what makes all the difference.  As long as you try your hardest and you do not achieve the expected result RIGHT AWAY, the first step is to try.  Then, get back on the saddle, forgive yourself, and strive to do better next time.  Above all, Eat, Move, and Improve!
